FY2024 Funding Package Moves Conservative Agenda Forward

March 22, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-05) released the following statement regarding the House passage of H.R. 2882, The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, by a vote of 286 to 134.

"This final package of Fiscal Year 2024 funding bills is far from the bills written by the House last year, but its passage means a win for Speaker Johnson and House Republicans successfully moving our conservative agenda forward. The alternative options were either another wasteful government shutdown, or a costly CR that would have prolonged Nancy Pelosi’s DEI and Green New Deal slush funds, withheld a 5.2% pay raise and quality of life improvements for our servicemembers and their families, and cut critical defense spending at a time when our troops are taking live fire from the Houthis and other Iran-backed militias.

"House Republicans successfully achieved many conservative wins, including:

  • Cutting non-defense spending for the first time in almost a decade.

  • Investing in our border security, including more Border Patrol Agents and increased detention capacity for illegal immigrants.

  • Cutting $574 million from wasteful climate change programs at DoD.

  • Maxing out production of critical munitions to replenish our stockpile reserves.

  • Slashing $1.2 billion from President Biden’s request for additional DoD civilian bureaucrats.

  • Rescinding $10 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act, defunding beefed up IRS enforcement.

  • Clawing back over $2 billion in unused COVID-19 funding.

  • Upholding important prolife protections like the Hyde Amendment, which ensures no federal funding can be used for abortion.

  • Prohibiting funding to United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA) that supports Hamas.

  • Keeping the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps on the Foreign Terrorist Organization list.

  • Prohibiting funds to the Chinese government or to other nations to repay debt owed to China.

  • Allowing only the American flag and other official flags to fly over U.S. embassies.

"These are just a few of the many conservative wins in this bill. More information on the bill can be found here."
