LEGISLATIVE UPDATE - Rep. Rutherford’s Veterans Armed for Success Act Passes VA Subcommittee

October 25, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the House Committee on Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity voted to advance H.R. 3965, the Veterans Armed for Success Act to the full committee for consideration. This bill creates a grant matching program for organizations that provide job readiness programs for veterans. These programs help ensure veterans have the skills they need to transition into a civilian workforce.

Congressman John Rutherford said, "This vote is great news for our veterans. It's the first step to passing a bill that will give them greater opportunities to transition into stable, long-term employment which will strengthen families, build a stronger local workforce, and improve the mental health of our veterans. Veterans are reliable, and dedicated, and they deserve to find a fulfilling career in their local area. I thank my colleagues on the Veterans Affairs Committee and on both sides of the aisle for supporting this important piece of legislation for our veterans and look forward to the Committee and House passing it as well."

Last Week, Congressman Rutherford announced the bill at Operation New Uniform, a skilled based learning and training program that is currently funded through private donations, limiting the number of veterans who can participate in the program. Through this training 97% of veterans who have graduated from Operation New Uniform have found meaningful careers within four months of completion. Operation New Uniform is just one example of the many organizations throughout the nation that work to ensure veterans receive long term careers.
