Rep. Rutherford Votes to Cut Middle Class Taxes, Create Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman John Rutherford voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a major tax reform measure to reduce the tax burden on individuals, families, and small businesses.
Congressman John Rutherford said, "Over 30 years have passed since the last overhaul of our nation's tax system. Our tax code has become complicated and unfair to American families. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act offers much needed tax relief for low-income and middle-income families. It doubles the standard deduction to protect hardworking families' paychecks, it increases the Child Tax Credit to help families with the cost of raising children, and it preserves important benefits to help families afford a home, save for retirement, or put their children through college. The typical middle-income American family of four will receive a $1,182 tax cut with this legislation.
"This bill is pro-family, pro-business, and will give our economy a major boost. It is estimated almost 100,000 jobs will be created in Florida with an estimated increase of over $4,000 in income for median households. Today, the House of Representatives had the opportunity to deliver the most sweeping tax overhaul in decades, and we kept our promise to Americans. I was proud to vote in favor of tax reform and want to thank my colleagues for prioritizing tax reform for our nation."
