Rutherford Votes For Disaster Relief Funding

October 12, 2017

Congressman John Rutherford released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2266, the Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Requirements Act. This supplemental disaster funding package provides an additional $36.5 billion in relief for Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Maria, as well as wildfire response in the Western U.S.

Congressman Rutherford said, "Today, I joined my colleagues to approveanother round of disaster assistance funding to continue the federal aid for the citizens of Florida, Puerto Rico, Texas and the U.S. Virgin Islands who continue to recover from Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Maria. It also includes assistance for the victims of the wildfires raging throughout California. These fires have taken homes and communities in a matter of minutes. I thank Speaker Ryan, Appropriations Chairman Frelinghuysen, and members on both sides of the aisle who responded to help those in need. Federal assistance will continue to flow to those who have lost so much, but there is more work to be done.

Florida agriculture also took a major hit, and citrus is critical for Florida's economy. After yesterday's meeting with the Florida delegation, Governor Scott, and Commissioner Putnam, we joined together to fight for additionalfederal funding for our agriculture and citrus industry. Overcoming and rebuilding after these disasters will take time, but I will continue to work with our State, local, and federal officials to ensure communities, and our farmers, can rebuild even stronger than before."

The bill will now move to the Senate – click HERE for more information.
