Congressman Rutherford Joins U.S. Army Golden Knights
For another Rutherford Ride Along, I recently visited the Homestead Air Reserve Base to spend a day in the life of the U.S. Army’s elite parachute team, the Golden Knights, and completed a freefall jump.
I now have a better appreciation for what these brave men and women do on a daily basis, and how important it is for Congress to support our military as they train to deploy in harm’s way. Unfortunately, our military has suffered far too many training accidents in recent years. In fiscal year 2018, military aviation accidents were responsible for 38 servicemember deaths, compared to 25 fatalities from attacks in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. By making smart investments in our national defense, we can give our warfighters the resources they need to safely and successfully carry out their mission around the world.
Freefalling down to Earth was an experience I will never forget. Thank you to the Golden Knights, my jump partner especially, and all our servicemembers here at home and abroad for the work they do to keep our country safe.
