Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017 to modernize the GI Bill. This bipartisan, bicameral package is budget neutral and includes provisions that have been proposed and prioritized by Veterans Service Organizations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman John Rutherford, along with Congressman Don Beyer, led a bipartisan letter from more than 100 members of Congress to Interior Secretary Zinke voicing concerns with a proposal to issue seismic testing permits for the Atlantic Ocean. Seismic testing, which is the prerequisite to opening the Atlantic to offshore drilling, poses a direct threat to the costal economies dependent on healthy ocean ecosystems for fishing, tourism, recreation, and the numerous businesses that rely on these industries.

At ceremonies June 20, the Jacksonville (FL) Transportation Authority (JTA) broke ground for the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center (JRTC), a state-of-the-art transportation hub that will connect local, regional and intercity modes of transportation including fixed-route buses, First Coast Flyer BRT, the Skyway/U²C, intercity bus, rideshare, bikeshare and future Amtrak and commuter rail.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved more than $17 million Wednesday for deepening a portion of the St. Johns River. But with the full cost of the JaxPort dredging estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the newest allocation is just a drop in the river.

The money is part of the Army Corps' work plan, which details the group's annual priorities.

The $40 million first phase of the dredging project, which JaxPort officials said will help it compete with its northern neighbors, is slated to begin this year after close to that amount in state funding was secured.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three Florida sea ports moved closer to advancing projects to make harbors deeper, following the release of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spending plan earlier this week.

The plan for spending of discretionary funds approved by Congress, released Wednesday, would provide $17.5 million to JaxPort, $2.8 million for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale and $9 million to Port Tampa Bay.

Freshman U.S. Rep. John Rutherford, R-Fla., was named to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, made the announcement after the House Republican Steering Committee's recommendation of adding Rutherford to the committee cleared the Republican Conference.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A $57 million building with a very modern look will be going up in the historic LaVilla area, just west of downtown.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority broke ground Tuesday on its new regional transportation center. A portion of the site that will house the city's Greyhound bus station is already under construction.
