WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) is pleased to announce that the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) will receive $20 million for port infrastructure improvements. Specifically, JAXPORT will reconstruct and modernize approximately 100 acres of the SSA Marine cargo terminal on Blount Island to allow the port to better accommodate the large container vessels transiting the expanded Panama and Suez Canals to the U.S. East Coast. This includes repaving, improved stormwater management, and installation of new lighting, signage, and other utilities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressmen John Rutherford (FL-04) and TJ Cox (CA-21) sent a letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs to ask for more information on the VA's long-term care plans, including assisted living programs, for veterans living with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Veterans who have suffered severe TBI often face challenges with finding adequate care when they return home.

AUGUSTINE, FLA. – Today, Northeast Florida Congressmen John Rutherford (FL-04), Al Lawson (FL-05), and Michael Waltz (FL-06) announce their introduction of H.R. 4542, the Nation's Oldest Port National Heritage Area Act, to designate portions of Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, and Flagler Counties as a National Heritage Area (NHA). NHAs, which are designated by Congress and protected by the National Park Service, recognize important natural, cultural, and historic landscapes and help celebrate the nation's diverse heritage.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on the final day of Deaf Awareness Month, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) announces his appointment as co-chair of the Congressional Deaf Caucus. He joins Co-chair Representative Mark Takano (CA-41) in leading the bipartisan Congressional Deaf Caucus, which bridges the communication divide between Members of Congress and their deaf and hard of hearing constituents. The caucus also works to advocate for legislative policies focused on the deaf community and to empower these individuals by promoting equal access for all.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) joined Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Representatives Matt Gaetz (FL-01), Michael Waltz (FL-06), and Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-25) to renew the effort to bring the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Jacksonville's 125th Fighter Wing. In the letter, Rutherford urged Acting Secretary of the Air Force Matthew Donovan to include Air National Guard installations that operate F-15 C/D Eagles to be considered in the upcoming basing rounds.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) and Congressman Al Lawson (FL-05) introduced the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum Act of 2019. This legislation would designate the POW/MIA Memorial and Museum at Cecil Field as the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum to honor all former prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) offered an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would require the Department of Defense (DoD) to evaluate the effectiveness of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) for female servicemembers. This bipartisan amendment was unanimously adopted by the House and will now will be included in the NDAA up for consideration on the floor this week. Among the cosponsors were Florida Representatives Al Lawson (FL-05) and Neal Dunn (FL-02).
