WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Rutherford testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to highlight the importance of beach renourishment and the Jones Act to Northeast Florida following Hurricane Irma. WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman John Rutherford introduced H.R. 4132, the Veterans Affairs Physician Recruitment Act of 2017, which would help VA fill health care provider positions that are in critical shortage. According to a recent Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General report, the VA continues to struggle to adequately recruit, staff, and retain high quality providers. In addition to these shortages, the percentage of retirement eligible VA physicians only continues to rise.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the 2017 limited opening of recreational and commercial red snapper fishery in South Atlantic federal waters. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council requested the opening after recent scientific information indicated a large increase in the size of the red snapper fishery since 2010. The red snapper and commercial season will open in South Atlantic federal waters for limited harvest in 2017 through emergency action.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the House Committee on Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity voted to advance H.R. 3965, the Veterans Armed for Success Act to the full committee for consideration. This bill creates a grant matching program for organizations that provide job readiness programs for veterans. These programs help ensure veterans have the skills they need to transition into a civilian workforce.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04), along with Congressman Al Lawson (FL-05), recently introduced H.R. 3965, the Veterans Armed for Success Act. This legislation creates a grant matching program for organizations that provide job readiness programs for veterans. These programs help ensure veterans have the skills they need to transition into a civilian workforce.

Congressman John Rutherford released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2266, the Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Requirements Act. This supplemental disaster funding package provides an additional $36.5 billion in relief for Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Maria, as well as wildfire response in the Western U.S.

Washington, D.C. –Speaking on the U.S. House of Representatives floor last night, Congressman John Rutherford praised local, state, and federal officials after Hurricane Irma, and explained the challenges Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands face as they recover from Hurricane Maria.
Key excerpts of Congressman Rutherford's remarks are transcribed below:

Today, Rep. John Rutherford voted in support of H.R. 36, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which passed the House on a 237-189 vote. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act restricts abortions beyond 20 weeks fertilization, the gestational age when unborn children begin to feel pain. Specifically, H.R. 36 establishes criminal penalties for any person who performs or attempts an abortion on a fetus after the 20-week mark, with exceptions for saving the life of the mother or for cases of rape or incest.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman John Rutherford announced his staff will be holding mobile office hours throughout Florida's 4th Congressional District. During these meetings, a representative from the Congressman's staff will be on hand to assist constituents with questions or problems related to federal agencies.
