WASHINGTON, D.C. - The United States House of Representatives voted unanimously to pass H.R. 2190, the Streamlining Department of Homeland (DHS) Overhead Act. This bill, which was introduced by Congressman John Rutherford in May, would mandate the development of regional property strategies that focus on consolidating leases when mission appropriate, give the Under Secretary of Management oversight tools to ensure DHS property is being managed effectively, and clearly outline responsibilities of the logistics team to achieve cost savings.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rutherford was appointed to serve on the House Judiciary Committee.
Congressman Rutherford said, "I am excited to have been appointed to the House Judiciary Committee. As a former Sheriff, I have committed my life to strengthening the justice system in Northeast Florida, and I am grateful for this opportunity to support the rule of law across our nation. I look forward to working with Chairman Goodlatte and thank him for appointing me to a strong committee focused on upholding the Constitution."
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Rutherford introduced H.R. 2471, the Terrorist Release Announcements to Counter Extremist Recidivism Act (TRACER Act). This legislation would require that state and local law enforcement be notified when federal prisoners convicted of terrorism charges are released from prison into their communities. While this information is sometimes shared with local agencies, often it is not, leaving local law enforcement and fusion centers without essential information to monitor security risks in their communities.
